Discover the beauty of watercolor in this beginner-friendly class designed for those new to the medium. Students will learn basic fundamental watercolor techniques. Through guided practice exercises, participants will build confidence and develop an understanding of how watercolor behaves on paper. Once the basic techniques have been explored, students will apply what they've learned by painting a bird image on pre-drawn watercolor paper.

This class focuses on learning essential skills rather than creating an original composition. The goal is to provide a foundation in watercolor techniques that students can continue to build on in future painting projects. No prior experience is necessary, and all skill levels are welcome.

All supplies are included. Students who already own watercolor paints and brushes are encouraged to bring them, as becoming familiar with your own materials can help support your continued watercolor practice at home.

Experience the unpredictable beauty and excitement of Raku firing in this two-part course with Mitchell Oliver.

Raku is an alternative firing method with roots in 16th-century Japan in which red-hot pottery is pulled directly from the kiln. The process embraces experimentation and the alchemy of clay, fire, and glaze, creating dramatic and often unexpected results.

The first class will focus on greenware instruction, followed by a second day dedicated to glazing and firing.

If you’ve ever wanted to experience the magic of pulling a glowing-hot piece from the kiln and seeing how fire transforms its surface, this is your chance.

Bring Your Winter Landscapes to Life

Do your winter paintings sometimes seem dull or lack the depth and vibrancy you see when you’re out in the landscape? While winter may not have the obvious colors of summer or fall, it is filled with subtle shifts in color and value that can bring a painting to life.

In this hands-on class, Wayne McKinzie will show you how to recognize those subtleties and use them in your own work. You’ll explore how choosing the right colors for an underpainting can create a beautiful glow and add depth and dimension to a winter scene.

Paint Side-by-Side with Wayne

This class offers a unique, collaborative approach. You’ll paint the same winter landscape alongside Wayne in real time, working on a provided 8" × 10" primed panel.

As Wayne’s painting develops, you’ll watch his process unfold while creating your own version. Ask questions as you work, learn his go-to brush techniques, and discover how he approaches color, value, light, and shadow.

The emphasis isn’t necessarily on leaving with a perfectly finished painting. Instead, the goal is to give you new skills, techniques, and ways of seeing that you can take back to your studio and use to create original artwork of your own.

All skill levels are welcome!
