About the Creamery

Originally opened in 1939 as a cooperative creamery by the North Fork Creamery Association, the Creamery building has long been a cornerstone of the Hotchkiss community. In 2005, the vision for a shared space dedicated to the arts and education came to life when a local citizen led the transformation of a once-vacant, one-story building into a vibrant, world-class gallery and education center.

After extensive renovations, the Creamery Arts Center officially opened its doors on May 12, 2006, as an artisans’ cooperative. In 2016, following ten years of serving Delta County’s creative community, the Creamery underwent restructuring to better support its growing mission.

Today, the Creamery stands as a dynamic nonprofit hub for the arts—home to over 60 local artists and authors, offering affordable art classes, and providing a welcoming space for visitors and locals alike. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, we rely on our members and community supporters to help us thrive.

Education is at the heart of everything we do. We offer affordable classes for all ages, from youth to seniors, in a variety of mediums. Our fully equipped clay studio rivals any in the state, and programs like After School Art and Summer Art Camp engage children with hands-on learning year-round. We also reach out to area seniors with free demonstrations and art activities led by our generous member volunteers.

In addition to the arts, we’re proud to support our broader community by hosting a Saturday Farmers Market during the summer months in Creamery Park, connecting local farmers, ranchers, and crafters with the public in a lively, supportive setting.
